For each gesture that you create, Knocki gives you the freedom to pick from a variety of tap patterns. Choosing a pattern for each gesture is largely a matter of preference, but we have a few suggestions to help you experience the best results.
Patterns for “ACTIVE” Surfaces
On surfaces that experience significant activity (such as dining tables or doors), longer tap patterns are recommended to reduce the probability of an unintended occurrence. We encourage you to experiment with gestures to find the simplest pattern that works reliably on an active surface. If you experience excessive false positives, simply increase the length or your gesture pattern.
Patterns for “CALM” Surfaces
Surfaces with less frequent activity (such as a night stand or wall) are ideal for simpler patterns, as they are less likely to be triggered when not intended. Triple taps are perfect for these types of surfaces, and on extremely calm surfaces, even a double tap can be used.
Default Patterns
As a general rule, the shorter the tap pattern, the simpler it is for you to to tap, and for Knocki to recognize.
Therefore, for each gesture you create, the app provides you with suggestions of the most “simple” patterns available for your Knocki. Available tap patterns are those that have not been assigned to other gesture on the same Knocki.
