Knocki is slow to respond to gestures

If you're experiencing lag between tapping a gesture and a task occurring, there are several steps you can take to improve the response time.

Make Sure the Lag is not Related to a 3rd Party Device or Service

To find the root cause of the lag, you need to first verify that it's not being caused by a 3rd party device or service.  You can verify this by adding a task to your gesture to "find a device".  This is a "built-in" task, meaning it does not rely on a 3rd party.

If you tap a gesture to "find a device", and are still experiencing a delay, you know the issue relates to your network or to Knocki, and can continue troubleshooting as outlined below.

Network Issues

Knocki is a WiFi device that communicates with other devices and services over WiFi and through the internet.  If your WiFi network is spotty, or your internet connection is slow or bogged down, Knocki may experience increased lag. 

To resolve issues with lag, it's helpful to understand how Knocki works.

Knocki maximizes battery life by putting the WiFi radio to sleep until Knocki recognizes a potential gesture.  When a potential gesture is recognized, Knocki wakes up WiFi and connects to your router and the internet. 

If Knocki has a strong and reliable signal to the router and you have a fast internet connection, this process is very fast.  However, if any of these factors is compromised, Knocki's performance may be affected. By experimenting with these variables, you can find the optimal setup.

Turbo Mode

Knocki has a special setting called Turbo Mode that keeps the WiFi radio awake for an extended period of time.  This mode reduces the impact of network connectivity issues, and in many cases will decrease lag time and increase tap to task speed.
